A Drop from the Ocean
a modern-day fairytale

poem by Ken Holmes, Summer 2010

A man of peace, he fell to pieces
In a world of driven egos
A woman of heart, she fell apart
When her dreams would not come true.

They met and fell ... in love ... they said
And pieced him back together
And he soothed her sadness and gave her dreams
And thus they shared a life and bed

It was a safety shell that turned into hell
Empty buckets rising from an emptied well
And he broke her heart, again,
But found no peace and no one to blame.
Hopeless people in a hopeless world
Settling for less than less as better than death
As husband and wife as a sort of life ...

For all their lives they had only looked outside.

A Drop from the Ocean: 2

A man of peace, he fell to pieces
In a world of driven egos
A woman of heart, she fell apart
When gooddreams would not come true.

They met and fell ... in love ... they said
And pieced him back together
And he soothed her sadness and gave her dreams
And thusthey shared a life and bed

,
By chanceor perhaps some other turn of fate,
One day at life's garden gate
Someone appeared
In the nickof time
Before the decline
And shonehis light in their dead of night

Their minds turned inside out and outside in.
Rivers of grace came flowing in ... and life ...
The restraining walls of fear and need,
Dissatisfaction, envy, vain hope and greed
Somehow became paper thin and light.

The womanof heart became a woman of heart, again
And the man of peace within peace became a man.

A Drop from the Ocean: 3

Travelling an endless path, he knew the ways
Of hilltops light and forests dark,
The tricks of foxes and the slides of snakes
And theunending music nature makes.

Up one hill and down one dale,
He chanced upon their dwindling fairytale.
Seeing far ahead through the web of time,
He felt their pain and slow decline.

Kindness moved within him and around him
And drew them so he could reveal his powers.
It turned them inside out and outside in
Opening up a world that few have seen.
